Matt Kenseth Wins Fuel-Mileage Race at Pocono

Matt Kenseth won a wild fuel-mileage race at Pocono Raceway on Sunday afternoon.  

Joey Logano led a race-high 97 laps during the Windows 10 400, but he ran out of fuel just three laps from the finish.  That handed the lead to Kyle Busch, who had won four of the last five races.

Busch ran out of fuel after taking the white flag, and Kenseth was able to take the lead from his teammate coming out of Turn 1 with enough fuel to take the checkered flag.

“We had a very fast Dollar General Camry,” Kenseth said.  “Didn’t get to show it all day…but I felt we had fast cars here.  I never thought I’d ever win in Pocono and I never thought I’d win a fuel-mileage race, so we did both today.”

Busch, who challenged for the lead most of the day, saw himself within reach of a Chase spot before running out of fuel.  Following his 21st place finish, Busch still sits outside the top 30 in points, just 13 points away from locking himself into the Chase for the Sprint Cup with five races remaining before the cutoff in Richmond.

“I didn’t know we were that close,” Busch said.  “I wish I would have saved a little more and I wish I would have known the 22 [of Logano] was that far away from making it.”

“That’s a bummer…a shame we weren’t able to make it.”

Kyle Busch Continues to Dominate, Wins at Indianapolis

Kyle Busch won the Brickyard 400 from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

Busch continued his domination of the Sprint Cup Series, picking up his fourth victory in five races on Sunday.  Busch said the win was one of the biggest of his career.

“Nothing better than being in victory lane for one of my biggest wins of my career here,” Busch said.  “And sweeping the weekend, even bigger yet.”

Busch, who missed the first 11 races of the season after being injured at Daytona, now finds himself just 23 points out of the top 30 in points.  Busch said his team can definitely contend for the championship if he can meet the top 30 requirement.

“We’re definitely a championship-contending team, and we just got to be championship-eligible.”

Not everyone left Indianapolis happy, however.  Hometown favorite Jeff Gordon, who was making his final start at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, crashed early in the event.  He was able to continue on in the race, but he finished 42nd after his car failed to maintain the minimum speed and he was forced to the garage.

Kyle Busch Goes Back-to-Back in New Hampshire

Kyle Busch won the 5-Hour Energy 301 from New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

The win was Busch’s third of the season, and it helped move him closer to the top 30 in points and a Chase berth.  Busch, now just 58 points behind 30th place, said the possibility of making the Chase is getting more real every week.

“This is such an awesome win, such an awesome comeback,” Busch said.  “Every week it’s been getting better and better.  It’s certainly the right thing to do to win races and to gather these points.”

During the race Busch found himself a lap down after he pitted for what he thought was a flat tire, but he raced his way back onto the lead lap before a caution came out on lap 250.  Busch said that passing Kevin Harvick to get his lap back was the pass that got him to victory lane.

“I just drove as hard as I could when I got off pit road, and I knew I needed to get those guys,” Busch said.  “The 4 [of Harvick] and the 2 [of Brad Keselowski] were the class of the field today.  I felt like our car was a close third.”

“Just winning these things, it’s just spectacular.”
