Top 10 Movies of 2016

2015 was a great year for movies, and 2016 looks to be just as good.  Below are the 10 movies I'm most looking foward to in the coming year, along with links to their IMDb pages.

10. Ratchet and Clank (April 29)
Growing up, I loved the Ratchet and Clank games.  I basically grew up with developer Naughty Dog, from Crash Bandicoot to Ratchet and Clank, and now with Uncharted and The Last of Us.  I am extremely excited about this movie, and it should be as fun to watch as it was to play.

9. Lights Out (July 22)
This movie is based on a short film from 2013.  I've seen it, and it's absolutely fantastic.  Light's Out is being produced by James Wan, who brought us Insidious and The Conjuring, so I'm sure this is going to be great.  To see the short, check out this link.

8. Gambit (October 7)
I love when an actor is passionate about a character, and passionate enough to keep pushing for a movie for years.  Channing Tatum is going to be great as Gambit, and I can't wait to see him up on the big screen.  Fox's X-Men universe is about to get a little bit bigger.  I'm not sure if this movie will actually come out this year, but I can definitely hope.

7. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (December 16)
So this thing called Star Wars seems to be kind of a big deal?  This movie is the first non-numbered films to be put out by Disney.  Disney's idea is to have a new numbered film every two years, with little movies like these in the years between.  This one should be fun.

6. X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27)
The trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse looks awesome, and I'm sure I'll love it.  I loved First Class and Days of Future Past, so I expect this movie to be up there with both of those.  Let's hope they avoid the X-Men: The Last Stand debacle of the third movie in a trilogy being bad.

5. 31 (TBA)
I love Rob Zombie so much.  It's safe to say he's one of my favorite directors.  I love all the gross gore stuff in his movies, and this one looks just as good.  Clowns playing some weird murder games by kidnapping people and putting them in a carnival sounds like my kind of movie.

4. Doctor Strange (November 4)
Doctor Strange is one of the coolest Marvel characters in their comics, so bringing him to the big screen is pretty exciting.  It's going to be something completely different than any other Marvel movie yet, and I'm going to love it.  Plus, Benedict Cumberbatch is playing the Doctor.

3. The Conjuring 2 (June 10)
2016 is a good year for horror fans.  James Wan (Insidious, Lights Out) is taking us back to two of the most famous paranormal experts, the Warrens.  I'm excited for this, and the trailer looks awesome.  

2. Captain America: Civil War (May 6)
The next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming up in May, and it's going to be a big one.  The movie will pit Iron Man against Captain America, and the two will split the other heroes in the world.  Plus, we've got some huge big-screen debuts in the movie: Black Panther and MCU Spider-Man!!

1. Deadpool (February 12)
Everyone knows my favorite hero is Spider-Man, but my second-favorite is Deadpool.  The Merc With a Mouth is making his big-screen re-debut (let's forget his "appearance" in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) around Valentine's Day, and it's going to be epic.  The movie is getting an R-rating, which is exactly what Wade Wilson deserves.  Plus, Ryan Reynolds has been pushing for this movie to be made for such a long time, it can only be fantastic.  Check out the red band trailer right here.  Definitely NSFW, but definitely awesome.

Fantasy Preview: Richmond 9/6

This Saturday, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Richmond International Raceway to settle the Chase field.  Below are my fantasy picks for the race.

Tier A
Clint Bowyer
Bowyer is always good at Richmond, and he returns to the track still needing a win to get into the Chase.  He returns to the race where he was involved in a scandal last year.  In that race, he spun in the final laps to help get his teammate, Martin Truex Jr., into the Chase.  He will be looking for redemption on Saturday night.

Bench:
Kurt Busch

Tier B:
Ryan Newman
Newman has been strong lately, and he will lock himself into the Chase on Saturday by finishing 41st or better.  With that weight off his back, I could see Newman running up front and contending for a good finish.

Greg Biffle
Biffle is the final driver on the Chase bubble, and he will need to be strong on Saturday.  He will need to finish ahead of Bowyer and Kyle Larson if he wants to get into the Chase on points.  I'd expect him to run well and maybe even contend for the win with his season on the line.

Bench:
Marcos Ambrose
Paul Menard

Tier C:
Austin Dillon
For once, I'm letting my own personal feelings take over instead of my better judgement.  If Dillon wins on Saturday, he'll lock himself into the Chase along with picking up his first career victory.  I would love to see that happen in Dillon's rookie year.  I don't expect him to win the race, but if he has a strong run I want to look like a genius with him on my fantasy team.

My pick to win the Federated Auto Parts 400...Kevin Harvick

The Federated Auto Parts 400 can be seen on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST on ABC as the Chase field is set.

Fantasy Preview: Atlanta 8/31

This Sunday, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Oral-B USA 500.  The race can be seen on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. EST.  Below are my picks for the race.

Tier A
Kevin Harvick
Harvick won the pole for Sunday night's race, and he has been strong all weekend.  After dominating Saturday night's Nationwide Series race, Harvick will be looking for the weekend sweep on Sunday night.

Bench:
Matt Kenseth

Tier B
Martin Truex Jr.
Truex is one of those drivers still looking for his first win of the season.  Truex is normally strong on the 1.5 mile tracks, and I expect him to run towards the front on Sunday night.

Brian Vickers
Vickers is also looking for his first victory, and he should be strong this weekend.  He qualified 19th, but he should finish well inside the top 15.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Jamie McMurray

Tier C
Danica Patrick
Patrick finished 21st in this race last year, but she has been getting much better over the course of this season.  If she has some good luck on Sunday night, Patrick could finish with a top 20.

My pick to win the Oral-B 500...Kevin Harvick

Fantasy Preview: Bristol 8/23

The Sprint Cup Series returns to Bristol Motor Speedway for Saturday's Irwin Tools Night Race.  Below are my picks for the race.

Tier A
Kyle Busch
The Busch Brothers are money whenever they go to Bristol.  After seeing how Kyle did in Friday's Nationwide race (and Thursday's truck race), chances are good that he could be standing in victory lane following the race.

Bench:
Kurt Busch

Tier B
Carl Edwards
Edwards won the first race at Bristol this season, and he seemed to be good when the lights came on.  He'll be looking to prove that he can still win with Roush-Fenway Racing following the announcement of his move to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2015.

Brad Keselowski
Keselowski is always good at Bristol, and he picked up his first Truck Series victory in Thursday's race.  Keselowski could easily pick up his fourth win of the season on Saturday night.

Bench:
Aric Almirola
Marcos Ambrose

Tier C
Austin Dillon
Dillon finished 11th at Bristol earlier in the year, and he should be strong Saturday.  He qualified 26th, the same place he started earlier in the season.  I expect Dillon to finish towards the front on Saturday.

Bench:

My pick to win the Irwin Tools Night Race...Brad Keselowski

Fantasy Preview: Pure Michigan 400

The Sprint Cup Series heads to Michigan International Speedway for the Pure Michigan 400.  After the race on Sunday, there will only be three more races until the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Tier A
Kasey Kahne
Kahne is a driver who still needs a win to get into the Chase.  Michigan is the type of track where Kahne excels, and he'll need all the speed he can get to work his way towards the front.

Bench:
Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Tier B
Joey Logano
Logano qualified second for the Pure Michigan 400, so he definitely has a fast car.  Logano won this race last year, and he should be strong again this weekend.

Carl Edwards
Edwards starts right behind Logano in third.  Roush-Fenway Racing is normally strong at Michigan, but they failed to run well in June.  I look for that whole team to turn it around on Sunday and have a strong run.

Bench:
AJ Allmendinger
Greg Biffle

Tier C
Kyle Larson
At this point, you'd be stupid not to pick Larson.  He's been good everywhere, and he finished eighth at Michigan in June.  He qualified 13th, and he should run towards the front most of the day.

My pick to win the Pure Michigan 400...Austin Dillon

Fantasy Preview: Watkins Glen 8/10

The Sprint Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen for the final road course race of the season.  Below are my fantasy picks for the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen.

Tier A
Kyle Busch
Busch starts 19th on Sunday, but he knows how to get around Watkins Glen.  He is very consistent, and runs up front during most Watkins Glen races.  He finished up front in Saturday's Nationwide race, so he's ready to get the victory.

Bench:
Kurt Busch

Tier B
Brad Keselowski
Keselowski qualified in the Top 10 for Sunday's race, and he raced with Busch and Marcos Ambrose in that very close finish a few years ago.  Keselowski is pretty much good everywhere, and he's running as strong as he was when he won the championship in 2012. 
I was going to start Tony Stewart, but following the tragedy with Kevin Ward Jr., Stewart will not race on Sunday.

Marcos Ambrose
This is Ambrose's last chance to get into the Chase.  Everyone knows he probably won't be able to get a victory on an oval, so he is definitely a favorite to win on Sunday.  He already won the Nationwide race, so a weekend sweep would get him into the Chase.

Tony Stewart
Carl Edwards

Tier C
Boris Said
Said wasn't as strong as I expected him to be at Sonoma, but I'm still going to go with him this weekend.  My other option was Danica Patrick, and she's had an absolutely terrible weekend.  Said may not run well, but hopefully he'll finish in the Top 30.

My pick to win the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen...Marcos Ambrose

Fantasy Preview: Pocono 8/3

This weekend, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Pocono Raceway for the GoBowling.com 400.  Below are my fantasy picks for Sunday's race at the "Tricky Triangle."

Tier A
Kevin Harvick
Harvick has either run strong this season or he's run terribly.  I think Harvick will run well this weekend.  He runs well at Pocono, and he finished 14th in June.  He qualified 6th for this race, so I expect him to run up front most of the day.

Bench:
Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Tier B
Jamie McMurray
McMurray qualified 8th for this race, and he should run strong on Sunday.  He got a top 10 in June, and I expect him to repeat that feat on Sunday.

Denny Hamlin
Hamlin has always run well at Pocono, and I expect him to continue to run well this weekend.  He starts 13th this weekend, but he is running without his crew chief who is serving a suspension.  Hamlin's team was penalized following last weekend's race at Indianapolis, and Hamlin will be looking to put that behind him in the Pocono Mountains.

Paul Menard
Marcos Ambrose

Tier C
Kyle Larson
I'm starting to think that there isn't anything this rookie can't do.  He picked up his first career pole for this race, and he dominated the Truck race on Saturday before his engine let go.  I would not be surprised if we celebrate this rookie's first career victory at the end of the day.

Fantasy Preview: Indianapolis 7/27

This Sunday, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400.  Below are my fantasy picks going into the race.

Tier A
Jeff Gordon
This weekend marks the 20th anniversary of Gordon's win in the inaugural Brickyard 400, and he's hungry for a victory.  I wouldn't be surprised if he finds victory lane on Sunday after starting on the front row.

Bench:
Kurt Busch

Tier B
Tony Stewart
Stewart is one of the best drivers when it comes to racing at Indianapolis, and he is still looking for his first win of the season.  He just won his first sprint car race after breaking his leg almost a year ago, and a win in Sprint Cup racing shouldn't be far behind.

Ryan Newman
Newman comes into this race as the defending champion.  Like Stewart, Newman is a native Hoosier who is still looking for his first win of the season.  Don't be surprised if Newman goes back-to-back at the Brickyard.

Martin Truex Jr.

Tier C
Juan Pablo Montoya
Montoya returns to the site of his greatest heartbreak.  Montoya was always a force to be reckoned with at Indianapolis, and he returns looking for the victory.  The Team Penske IndyCar driver will come into the race with nothing to lose.  With no points on the line, Montoya will go all-out for the victory on Sunday.

My pick to win the Brickyard 400...Tony Stewart

Fantasy Preview: Camping World RV Sales 301

The Sprint Cup Series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Camping World RV Sales 301 on Sunday.  Read below to see who I'm picking this weekend.

Clint Bowyer
Bowyer always seems to run well on the flat tracks, and New Hampshire should be right up his alley.  He qualified eighth for Sunday's race, and he won't have far to go to find the lead.

Bench:
Kasey Kahne

Tier B
Tony Stewart
Stewart is always strong at New Hampshire, and his last win at the track was in 2011.  Stewart is hungry to get his first win and race his way into the Chase.  Without a win, Stewart will probably miss the Chase, and he will be a threat to win this weekend.

Ryan Newman
Stewart's former teammate is also strong at New Hampshire, and his last win was also in 2011.  Newman is another driver looking to get into the Chase, and a victory would definitely help him out.

Bench:
AJ Allmendinger
Brian Vickers

Tier C
Jeff Burton
This could be Burton's final Sprint Cup Series race, and it comes at a track where he is usually strong.  Burton is driving the No. 66 Michael Waltrip Racing car, and a trip to victory lane would be the perfect end to a long career.

My pick to win the Camping World RV Sales 301...Tony Stewart

Fantasy Preview: Coke Zero 400

The Sprint Cup Series heads under the lights at Daytona for the Coke Zero 400 on Saturday.  Read below to see who I'm picking this weekend.

Tier A

Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Earnhardt has returned to his old form when he won six races in 2004, and he returns to the place of his first victory of the season.  All eyes will be on him for the Coke Zero 400, and I look for him to be strong Saturday night.

Bench:
Kurt Busch

Tier B
Casey Mears
Daytona is always a track where anyone can win, and Mears usually runs well at restrictor-plate tracks.  He's a guy that always seems to be there at the end of the race, and a top 10 finish would not be unexpected.

David Ragan
Ragan's first career victory came in this race in 2011, and his other victory came at Talladega.  Ragan is a good plate racer, and he, like Mears, is always around at the end of the race.  Add that to the fact that the team's cars are fast -- his teammate David Gilliland won the pole -- and Ragan could find himself in victory lane.

Bench:

Ryan Newman

Tier C
Michael Waltrip
Waltrip only runs at the restrictor-plate tracks, so it's a no-brainer to save a better driver and pick him.  Waltrip almost won at Talladega two years ago, and he might be able to get his third Daytona victory on Saturday.

Fantasy Preview: Kentucky 6/28

This weekend, the Sprint Cup Series heads under the lights at Kentucky Speedway.  The Quaker State 400 presented by Advance Auto Parts is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST on TNT.  Read on to see who I'm picking this weekend!

Jeff Gordon
Gordon has been very strong this season, and he currently leads the points standings.  I expect him to run strong this weekend, and he might be able to pick up his first career win at Kentucky.

Menard has been pretty consistent this season, and this weekend should be no different.  Menard finished in the Top 15 two years ago at Kentucky, and I expect more of the same this weekend.

Jamie McMurray
McMurray was fast during this weekend's practice sessions, and he qualified eighth for the race.  The Ganassi cars have speed this weekend, and he won't have far to go to find the lead.

AJ Allmendinger

Tier C
Cole Whitt
Whitt has shown flashes of speed this season, but starting him in fantasy won't bring much.  I'm hoping he can get a top 25 finish.  He was 25th fastest in final practice, so it seems like he's on the right track.

Fantasy Preview: Sonoma 6/22

This weekend, the Sprint Cup Series heads out west to Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota/Save Mart 350!  Read on to see who I'm picking this weekend.

Kahne has been good in the past at Sonoma.  He's won a race here before, and he's the only Hendrick driver still looking for a victory this season.  I expect him to be strong this weekend.

Bench:
Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Tier B
Marcos Ambrose
Is this really a surprise?  You would be stupid not to start Ambrose on a road course.  He grew up on road courses in Australia, and he is always a threat to win.  I wouldn't be surprised if he won his first race at Sonoma this weekend.

AJ Allmendinger
Allmendinger is another driver who is better on road courses, and this weekend he should be strong.  A win for this team would be incredible, and a berth in the Chase would be huge.

Tony Stewart

Tier C
Danica Patrick
While Patrick was a better IndyCar driver on the ovals, she has way more practice on road courses than a lot of other Sprint Cup drivers.  A strong run this weekend would really help that team out, and behind the restrictor-plate tracks, a road course would be her best shot at getting into the Chase.

My pick to win the Toyota/Save Mart 350...Marcos Ambrose

Fantasy Preview: Michigan 6/15

This week, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Michigan International Speedway for the Quicken Loans 400!  Read below to see who I'm picking for this weekend's race.

Tier A
Matt Kenseth
Kenseth always runs strong on the 1.5 mile tracks, and he's due for a win.  I'm really surprised that he's gone winless this season after picking up seven victories last season.  I expect him to run strong this weekend, and maybe his winless streak will come to end.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Stenhouse is still looking for his first win, and I wouldn't be shocked if it came at a track like Michigan.  I expect him to run well this weekend and challenge for a top 10.

Martin Truex Jr.
Truex finished third in this race last year, and he's shown signs of repeating that feat this year.  He has momentum after two-straight top 10 finishes, and I expect that to continue this weekend.

Bench:

Tier C
Brett Moffitt
Moffitt finished 22nd in his first career Sprint Cup Series race at Dover.  Dover is an extremely hard track to debut on, and he will hopefully have an easier time at Michigan.  Michael Waltrip Racing has been strong at Michigan in the past, and that should help Moffitt have a good Top 20 run.

Fantasy Preview: Pocono 6/8

This week, the Sprint Cup Series heads to my "home track" of Pocono Raceway!! Read on to see who I'm picking this weekend.

Johnson is always strong at Pocono, and that team is firing on all cylinders right now. It would be stupid not to start him following his back-to-back victories.

Bench:
Jeff Gordon

Tier B
Tony Stewart
Stewart is strong at Pocono, and he always seems to heat up during the summer months.  He'll need to heat up fast if he wants to get a win to make the Chase, so I expect him to surprise everyone this weekend with a very strong run.

Ryan Newman
Newman has had some solid runs this season, and I expect that to continue this weekend.  I wouldn't be surprised if he can reel off a top 10 this weekend.

Bench:
Paul Menard
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Tier C
Justin Allgaier
Again, I decided to save my Tier C drivers for a little later in the season, so I'm going with someone who hopefully won't finish last.  Allgaier can easily surprise everyone with a strong run, and hopefully he'll finish inside the Top 20.

My pick to win the Pocono 400...Tony Stewart

Fantasy Preview: Charlotte 5/25/14

This week, the Sprint Cup Series heads to Charlotte for the longest race of the season, the Coca-Cola 600.  I accidentally forgot to reset my fantasy team for this week, but I think I may have lucked out following the qualifying results.  Read on to see who I picked for this weekend.

Tier A
Clint Bowyer
Bowyer qualified very well, and he ran well last weekend for the All-Star Race.  He won the Sprint Showdown, and I expect his good fortune to continue this weekend.

Brad Keselowski
Keselowski's victory this season came at Las Vegas, which is similar to Charlotte.  I expect Keselowski to run very well this weekend, and he starts second on Sunday night.

Aric Almirola
Almirola was strong during the Sprint Showdown last weekend, but failed to race his way into the All-Star Race.  He has had some very good runs early this season on the 1.5 mile tracks, and I expect that to continue this weekend.

Tier C
Danica Patrick
Patrick ran extremely well at Kansas two weeks ago, finishing seventh.  She seems to be turning a corner, and she also qualified well for this weekend's race.  I expect her to continue her momentum and pick up at least a Top 15 finish on Sunday.

Fantasy Preview: Richmond 4/26

This week, the Sprint Cup Series is back and under the lights at Richmond International Speedway.  Below, I'll tell you who I think will be strong this weekend.

Tier A

Clint Bowyer
Bowyer is usually strong at the short tracks like Richmond, and I expect that to continue this weekend.  He finished second in this race last season, and he already has two victories at the track.  I expect him to be strong this weekend.

Bench:
Kasey Kahne

Tier B
Brian Vickers
Vickers was strong at Bristol this year, and these two tracks are pretty similar (at least a lot more similar than Bristol and Martinsville).  Vickers ran strong here last season, but finished 35th following a crash while filling in for Denny Hamlin.  I think he should be strong this week.

Carl Edwards
Going off the similarities to Bristol, Edwards should be strong here.  He won at Bristol earlier this year, and he won the last race at Richmond back in the fall.  I wouldn't be surprised if he ends this race with a victory backflip.

Bench:
Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Martin Truex Jr.

Tier C
Danica Patrick
Patrick had an average finish of 29.5 last season at Richmond, but she did finish 18th at Bristol earlier this year.  The drivers in Tier C (with the exception of Austin Dillon and Kyle Larson) are usually pretty rough, and most times I just hope for a top 25 finish out of them.

Landon Cassill

My pick to win the Toyota Owners 400: Carl Edwards

Carl Edwards celebrates his victory earlier this year at Bristol. Could he return to Victory Lane in Richmond?

Fantasy Preview: Darlington 4/12

This week, the Sprint Cup Series heads to the Lady in Black, Darlington Raceway.  Read on to find out which drivers I'm starting on my fantasy team this weekend!

Tier A
Kyle Busch

Darlington is a good track for Kyle Busch.  It's a track where you can run right next to the wall, get into it a little bit and keep racing.  Busch is always one of the first drivers to get a Darlington Stripe, but that shouldn't slow him down.  I always think of his victory in the 2008 race at Darlington, when he drove an Indiana Jones car and completely flattened the right side.  Too bad that only made his car go faster.

Tier B
Tony Stewart
I was surprised Tony Stewart ran so well at Texas.  I think that team is starting to turn the corner, and I think he should run well at Darlington.  A strong run at this track will help that team build even more confidence heading towards the summer months.

Greg Biffle
Greg Biffle is always strong at Darlington, and I think he'll run well this weekend.  That team just seems to be missing something, but I expect them to find it this weekend, or at least come close.  Biffle knows how to get around Darlington, and he should run well this weekend.

Tier C
Michael Annett
Honestly, I'm just picking Annett because I can't keep using Austin Dillon and Kyle Larson every weekend.  He's shown a few flashes (and by that, I mean he's run in the top 20 a few times).  He finished 26th at Bristol, which is the closest thing on the schedule to Darlington.  Expect him to run around the same place this weekend.
