Carl Edwards won the Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond
International Raceway on Sunday afternoon.
The victory Sunday was
Edwards’ second-straight win. He had to
move his teammate Kyle Busch out of the way on the final lap to pick up the
win. Edwards said he was already
committed to the inside line when Busch decided to block.
“[Busch] went down to the
bottom to park it in 3 and 4 and I had already decided to go down there, so I
thought I was going to give him a little nudge,” Edwards said. “We both got wins and we’re racing for wins
and getting these trophies.”
“I didn’t think we had
anything, Kyle was so good there for that run.
Kyle’s an amazing teammate.”
Busch said his car wasn’t
as good on the long run as Edwards’, and it ultimately cost him the race.
“We had a really great
car today,” Busch said. “We were fast,
but not as good as Carl on the long runs.
We did everything right; we did everything we were supposed to do and
put ourselves in the right position.”
The race was highlighted
by the return of Tony Stewart, who missed the first eight races of the season
recovering from a back injury following an off-season crash. Stewart finished 19th.
