Brad Keselowski won the Kobalt 400 from Las Vegas
Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
Keselowski passed hometown favorite Kyle Busch with
five laps to go, and he was able to run away to capture the victory.
Keselowski said his car was great on long runs, but he
didn’t get one until the very end.
“We had awesome speed at the end of every run,”
Keselowski said. “At the end we got that
big, long run…it finally started taking off with about 25 to go and I was able
to get second.”
“Once I got to the 18 [of Busch], I saw his car had
started to fall off and mine hadn’t.”
Keselowski stayed out during a late caution, and he
was able to save enough fuel to make it last until the end following a string
of late cautions.
“I didn’t figure there would be any way we’d make it…we
were able to save a bunch,” Keselowski said.
Busch, who won Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, said a
late-race vibration caused his car to tighten up in the closing laps.
“I had a vibration when we put the right [side tires]
on, and then it just kept getting worse and worse there at the end,” Busch
said. “It got so tight; that was the tightest
we were all day. I didn’t know if the
tire was coming apart or what.”
