Edwards took the lead late in the race after his team
got him out of the pits first during the final pit stop. Edwards said it was his team that got him to
victory lane.
“[Crew chief] Darian [Grubb] did a great job tonight,”
Edwards said. “Our guys never quit. JGR is unbelievable; these guys have been
working so hard.”
Darlington was the second race this season to use the
new low-downforce package that NASCAR has tested. Edwards, who was a major supporter of the
package, said this is the direction NASCAR needs to go in the future.
“I loved it,” Edwards said. “This is as good as it gets. This is the style of racing that I love. If there’s any chance we can run this in the
Chase, I hope we do it.”

Joey Logano Wins the Irwin Tools Night Race
Originally written for CLNS Radio.
Joey Logano won the Irwin Tools Night Race from
Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night.
Logano held off Kevin Harvick over the closing laps,
and Logano said the victory was a credit to his team and their hard work.

“We focused on what we needed in practice and got the
reward in the race,” Logano said. “It
was just all about working the lapped traffic at the end…it was a very exciting
last 20, 30 laps for sure.”
Logano was able to pick up his second-straight victory
in the Irwin Tools Night Race, and he said his team made his car handle well at
the right time.
“You’ve got to have a car that can move around,
especially when you’re lapping cars,” Logano said. “The last few races here, [crew chief Todd Gordon]’s
definitely given me the car I needed to make the moves.”
Harvick followed Logano over the final 30 laps, but
could never get beside him to make a pass.
Harvick said it was Logano’s ability to get around lapped traffic that
got him to victory lane.
“I couldn’t get my car to rotate across the center
like I needed it to,” Harvick said. “[Logano]
was able to get those huge runs up off the exit of the corner and just stayed
one step ahead of me through traffic.”
“In clean air we probably were a little faster, but…I
had to be in front of him to show that.
He was just one step ahead of me in traffic.”

Matt Kenseth Dominates in Michigan
Originally written for CLNS Radio.
Matt Kenseth won the Pure Michigan 400 from Michigan
International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
Kenseth dominated the race, leading a race-high 146
laps after starting on the pole. He had
to fend off Kevin Harvick on a late restart with 13 laps to go, but he was able
to keep the lead and pick up the victory.
Kenseth said his teammate Denny Hamlin helped Kenseth overtake Harvick
on the final restart.
“Denny did a spectacular job pushing me first from the
restart zone to about turn two,” Kenseth said.
“It was like a superspeedway race and it was whoever got locked up.”

With 50 laps to go, Kenseth held off a hard-charging
Austin Dillon for the lead. Kenseth said
that battle was the hardest of the day.
“We went back and forth a few times and made some
contact up there and it was hard to get away from him. My car took about five laps to get going and
once it got going it was pretty stout.”
Joe Gibbs Racing has now won five of the last six
races, but Kenseth said it was still too early to pick Chase favorites with
three races until the cutoff.
“You have 16 teams [in the Chase] that are capable of
winning races on a weekly basis, as well as championships. The guys gave us…rockets the last couple
months and we’re going to work hard to keep it rolling.”
